Week ending 9 Oct 2026
The markets whose week stood out against their own history, and what is coming next.
It was a calmer week than most on the board, with a few big stories moving single names.
SpaceX agreed on Thursday evening to buy a block of nationwide airwaves from Grain Management for its Starlink phone service. The deal still needs the US regulator's approval. On Friday the phone companies fell on fears of a price war, and T-Mobile dropped 13% on the day. The tower companies rose, since SpaceX could become a big new customer. American Tower gained 9% on Friday and 12% over the week.
In Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro won Sunday's first round of the presidential election with 47% of the vote to President Lula's 45%. The two meet again in a runoff on 25 October. Itaú jumped 15% on Monday and ended the week up 18%. Deere fell 9.6% after the FTC and USDA opened an inquiry into farm-equipment makers on Wednesday, then a bigger US harvest forecast on Friday. Vistra rose 15% in a week that started with the US Department of Energy offering it a loan of up to $4.2 billion to upgrade three nuclear plants.

The week ahead
Monday is a US holiday, so no US figures come out that day. The big US banks start reporting on Tuesday, with JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Citi before the open, along with Johnson & Johnson and UnitedHealth. Bank of America and Morgan Stanley follow on Wednesday, and Marsh and BNY on Thursday.
The one to watch is US inflation on Wednesday at 08:30 New York. It is the last CPI figure before the Fed's next decision on 28 October. China's inflation comes out the same morning in Beijing. On Thursday, TSMC reports at 14:00 Taipei, and the US releases retail sales and producer prices at 08:30 New York.
