WEEKLY RECAP

Week ending 28 Aug 2026

The markets whose week stood out against their own history, and what is coming next.

TJX −4.5%, MSTU +29.5% and 3 more · Weekly recap 28 Aug 2026

Two stories carried this week. Salesforce beat its earnings forecast by a wide margin and announced a partnership with Anthropic, and software followed it higher. Bitcoin touched a three-month high near $80,000, which pulled Strategy's shares up nearly 40% from mid-August, and with them the leveraged fund that tracks the company.

The rest of the board was quieter but still moving. TJX kept sliding after last week's softer profit outlook, with a Jefferies downgrade added on. Adobe rose on new AI features in Photoshop and a raised full-year outlook. Sugar had its biggest week since May 2025 as the global supply picture tightened, with India, normally an exporter, opening the door to a million tonnes of imports.

Every move here is sized against that market's own history rather than by raw percentage. That is why a 3% week in sugar sits beside a 29% week in a leveraged fund: both are far outside their own normal.

The moves that mattered

Sized against each market's own history, not by raw percentage — so a quiet market moving 3% can outrank a wild one moving 9%.
